My brief review from Welly Wu I bought this ASUS SBW-06C1S-U because I already bought a laptop ASUS N61JV-X2 with Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate and I subscribe to Netflix, with the possibility of renting Blu-Ray as an additional option . I looked at several other competing manufacturers such as Sony and Buffalo, but I decided to take this ASUS SBW-06C1S-U because of the reputation of the brand. Before you decide to purchase, you must make sure your PC supports HDCP visiting the website and download and install Cyberlink Cyberlink BD & 3D Advisor tool. Run this tool to check if your PC is the standard. To the best of my knowledge, Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 2 and Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium and above support HDCP. This disc comes with an AC adapter and power cord standard, the same drive and high-speed USB 2.0 for a mini. Simply plug in the cord, plug in the USB cable 20 and plug it into a USB 2.0 port on your computer and let Windows automatically detect and install the appropriate drivers. Then open the tray and place the Cyberlink PowerDVD 8 cd and install the software on your PC for Blu-ray movie playback. The version that is too old. Cyberlink PowerDVD Ultra 10 Mark II is the current version at the time of this writing. It costs $ 79.99 USD for new customers. I use the ASUS SBW-06C1S-U to decode and rip Blu-Ray movies I rent from Netflix using SlySoft's AnyDVD HD. I save it to an external 1.50 TB Western Digital Caviar Green hard drive is housed in a Thermaltake BlacX Hard Drive Dock connected via eSATA. It takes about 20 minutes to write a single layer of 25.00 GB Blu-ray Disc. If you connect your USB 2.0 0 port directly connected to your PC, then there is no need for AC adapter and cable to run to play or burn to Blu-ray discs or the new unit replaces an older LG GSA-5163D firmware A105-Super Multi Double layer DVD and CD player and voice recorder. I am able to my CD, DVD-Video and Blu-ray collection ripped to my hard drive using the ASUS SBW-06C1S-U without problems. I checked the ASUS site for firmware or software updates and there is no at the time of this writing. As a side note, if your DVD-Video and Blu-ray to an ISO file ripping. Then you can use Video Lan VLC player to play movies at any time. No need to get the latest version of Cyberlink PowerDVD to buy or install the software CD included if you choose to decipher, rip, and play movies on your hard disk. I tested the disk encryption feature and it does not work as advertised. The cryptographic algorithm Advanced Encryption Standard with 128-bit encryption strength of SHA-1 algorithm as Häsing It is very suitable for cryptography to secure your data on optical disks. Overall this is an easy to install and use the product for as long as you tested for HDCP support, and you have modern hardware and software on this drive support. It is well built to withstand occasional shocks, while tucked away in a pocket on the go Blu-Ray playback or burning discs. I recommend it to travelers who want an optical drive in a netbook or subnotebooks that do not come with a unacceptably. Addendum: I have returned this product for a full refund because it uses two USB 2.0-ports to power the drive while you're on the go. My ASUS N61Jv-X2 Notebook PC is highly distributed USB 2.0-ports, so that the special Y-shaped USB Type A to two mini-cable is not compatible. 17 of 18 people found the following review helpful. Great writer and a good price for SquallMX (crap) English: work as expected, is the software package right (but I recommend ImgBurn to burn a disc, and Total Media Theater to watch movies on DVD and Blu-Ray) The only drawback is the need for some two USB ports (no hub) to the right.
