I love it by Jana Chen optical drive on my 1 year old table literally given up on me - simply would not read my CD and DVD, let alone burn and make my backup. And so I asked my brother for help to replace the optical drive. While we have to identify which units to order from Amazon, I told my brother, "Would not it be nice to have one of those records that do not have trays on my desk?" He said they were called slot-loading drives. We were afraid that they were not designed for desktops because I have often seen on laptops of my friends. "After some 'research, we finally arrived at the DigiStore site - [...] - and found that they had some desktops. I ordered them on Amazon, and now I have had at least 2 months. It is wonderful to work - we read all my CDs and DVDs, and burns on my back-up as well. It's a speedy drive, I didn't have to wait as much as with my old DVD burner My brother told me to be careful with the slot load mechanism, as there was no "emergency eject" hole on this one, but so far, no problems with it at all. It gets the Job Done for a lot of Money By Peter Besenbruch This is a laptop drive mounted in a half height, 5.25" adapter. I use it with a Linux machine (Debian Lenny) and find it reasonably fast and quiet. It mounts near the top of the 5.25" adapter, so consequently, the slot sits very high when compared to conventional DVD burners. The price is $30 more than conventional DVD burners, a difference not justified by its performance. This is an internal Blu-Ray reader / DVD burner for the Powerbook, iBook G4, Mac Mini G4, and the original 17" Macbook Pro models. This drive DOES NOT burn blu-ray discs. It will read blu-ray discs. Blu-ray discs are still not officially supported under Mac OSX. Most people use this drive in combination with BootCamp or virtualization software to play Blu-Ray via Windows on your Mac which is supported. The drive does not come with any software. I had this with the intention of the installation in a slim DVD SATA for use as a portable USB2 BD. From the beginning I had problems do not even realize that BD movies. He has no problems with DVDs and CDs and will appear in My Computer as the BD-ROM. I took it for today, but my next trip to understand this thing. Finally I found a discussion where it is proposed that the lens should be cleaned with alcohol. After a few scrubs soft but strong, to my surprise, it worked. I played about five or six movies on three different computers with no problem. Then, suddenly, began reading the stuttering. I put the laptop where it worked the first time and now again, it would not even recognize BD disc. I did some research and discovered a commentary on a Slim Sony BD player who suggested that the device need room to flex and loosen the screws that hold it in place would have helped that I decided to take apart my box and plug in the chip sets directly. Yahoo, it works again. Actually, I think I just need to cut or file the opening so that the box / sliding mechanism to work more freely. There is much talk about upgrading and installation of UDF driver (especially XP), but my feeling is that it is mostly mechanical. Optics must be as clean as possible, and the disk needs to spin as freely as possible. 0 of 0 people found this review helpful. Cheaper solution you can get thin BD Ted Hancock works great on my custom built HTPC with a thin stripe. They have tried to write, but that's not what a HTPC is supposed to anyway. PowerDVD plays BD 9/MCE through but the interface is a bit 'uncomfortable with this combo of Frankenstein, I do not think it's the fault of the player though. 0 of 0 people found this review helpful. The failed disk. From my puffin was bad, so I went back and got a full refund. All's well that ends well. Blu-ray feature initially worked, but the disc was able to write CD-R and had other problems.
